Dr (Brig) Sameer Kumar is a senior heart surgeon with long service in the Armed Forces Medical Services. He has done around 5,000 heart operations in his career. This includes more than 36 heart transplants. He has also helped start heart transplant programs in Delhi and Pune during his service years.

Dr (Brig) Sameer Kumar worked for many years at Army Hospital (R&R), New Delhi and AFMC Pune. He handled serious heart cases, both in adults and children. His routine work includes bypass surgery, valve surgery, and operations on the aorta. He also manages patients who need a heart transplant or machine support like ECMO.
He received further training in heart and lung transplant surgery in the UK. Along with surgery, he has trained young doctors and helped develop cardiac surgery departments. In 2023, he received the Sena Medal (Distinguished) for his service.
