Introduction

If liver failure, chronic hepatitis, or a stubborn case of IBD has stumped a couple of other doctors already, Dr. Bhaskar Nandi is the kind of specialist people eventually get sent to. He’s Director & Head of Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Endoscopy at Sarvodaya, and honestly, 36 years is a long time to spend inside one organ system. He’s seen essentially every variation of what can go wrong in the liver and gut.

About Dr. Bhaskar Nandi

Dr. Bhaskar Nandi’s path started with an MBBS and MD in Medicine at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, before he moved to AIIMS New Delhi for his DM in Gastroenterology, which is one of the toughest specialty programs to get into in the country. Unusually, most of his career was spent within the Armed Forces Medical Services rather than private hospitals. During his 25+ years there, he served as Professor & Head of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Army Hospital (Research & Referral) in New Delhi and managed the Armed Forces Organ Donation, Retrieval & Transplantation Authority for several years.
Notably, he managed a large liver transplant program at Army R&R as a transplant hepatologist. Over his career, he has performed more than 50,000 therapeutic endoscopic procedures. He is also active nationally, serving on the Governing Council of the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and teaching as faculty for its flagship academic programs (GYM and YCP) to train DM and DNB gastroenterology residents.
